About Us

Steve Haywood’s jewellery making journey started in 1987 although his father Harry Haywood started his Jewellery apprenticeship 1957, so jewellery making is kind of in his DNA. He started at Edward Dickson limited as a jewellery apprentice and later moved to Michael Hill Manufacturing where he helped develop a Handmade section within the New Zealand workshop and finished his time there as the Manufacturing Manager leading 26 producers of world class jewellery.

In 2004 Steve started his own business. In the following year he attended his first CollaboratioNZ biannual event and has been on the committee and attending ever since. He just loves working with other artists in many different media and he has developed his own style from the inspiration of the creative exchange.

Steve became an art gallery owner in 2006 and took part in various exhibitions at Tukaha Gallery in Tutukaka. Other exhibitions that include Steve’s work are The Greatplate Exhibition at the Quarry Arts Centre.

In 2007 he bought the current store location in Whangarei’s Town Basin from Todd Barrell Master Jeweller who also had a passion for well made jewellery and the best retail jewellery store in Whangarei. 2007 also saw Steve attend the first New Zealand Jewellery Show which he continues to attend annually and was a finalist in 2008 with his Engineered ring design.

Steve sponsors various local events including the Bernina Fashion Show in Whangarei and the Fashion Fiesta at the Ruakaka races. He also is a passionate supporter of the Whangarei BNI chapter and North Haven Hospice.

In 2011 Steve collaborated with Te Rangitu Netana and Garth Dobney in making a Submission for the Whangarei Art walk and also worked alongside Te Rangitu Netana to produce the “E Nga hau e Wha” (four winds) 3 ring set.
